Weekend Ramp Restrictions Returning to Kent Island for Summer Traffic Management

4/25/2026

Weekend ramp restrictions will return to Kent Island next month as Queen Anne’s County and the Maryland State Highway Administration continue efforts to improve traffic flow and local access during peak summer travel.

Beginning Sunday, May 17, access to westbound Route 50/301 will be restricted on Saturdays, Sundays, and holiday Mondays, including Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The restrictions will impact:

- Duke Street (Exit 38A)
- MD 8/Business Parkway/Romancoke Road (Exit 37)

The ramps will be closed to westbound traffic from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on those days.

Drivers will still be able to exit Route 50 onto MD 8 and MD 18, but they will not be able to enter westbound Route 50 from those locations during the restriction period.

County officials say the program is designed to reduce congestion on Main Street and improve access for local residents and emergency responders.

New this year, gates will be installed at the MD 8 ramp to reduce staffing needs, while still allowing emergency crews access when needed.

Drivers needing westbound access will be directed to use eastbound Route 18 to Castle Marina Road.

Officials say the program helped improve travel times last summer, even as traffic volumes increased across the Bay Bridge.

Motorists are encouraged to check traffic conditions before traveling by visiting chart.maryland.gov.
