More than 50 eighth-grade students at Sudlersville Middle School have earned national recognition for their creative writing.

This past fall, students in Mrs. McNiece’s English Language Arts class participated in the “Thrill of Horror” writing unit, where they crafted 100-word horror stories focused on strong setting, vivid imagery, and intentional word choice. Students were invited to submit their work to the Young Writers Fright Club nationwide contest.

As a result, 54 students were selected for publication in Fright Club 2025 – Nightmare Tales. From all published entries across the country, three students will be chosen to receive a $50 Amazon gift card.

Principal Dr. Brice praised both the students and their teacher for the achievement, calling it a proud moment for the school community.
Mrs. McNiece said the 100-word limit encouraged multiple rounds of thoughtful revision and described the excitement in the classroom when students learned their stories would be published.

The following students were selected for publication:

Aaron Patterson, Addi Mitchell, Alivia Smith, Amir Johnson, Aubree Whitby, Aubrey Grinder, Brad Kimble, Brayden Moore, Brooklyn Rolf, Cali Jackson, Chapin Kusmider, Charlotte Shaffer, Claire Anderson-Schultz, Collin Lepter, Connor Fellows, Cooper Goodman, Dayron Garcia Gomez, Derrell Fitzhugh, Emily Ceruzzi, Everett Brownley, Gage Lynch, Genesis Pereira Navarrette, Holden McNeil, Hunter Childress, Jacob Mattis, Jacob Sturgill, James Coleman, Jasyah Johnston, Jayden Morales, Johanna Morales Salas, Kacie Osborn, Kara Steigerwald, Katie McIntire, Kendall Sullivan, Kierra Lewis, Layla Wojtko, Lily Altamirano, Maddie Schrader, Makai Ramirez, Mason Brown, Matthew Massey, Max Morris, McKenzie Thren, Natalie Jaber, Nico Guarnera, Owen Hosler, Paysen Ramsey, Princeton Davis, Sammy Patterson, Shane Johnson, Sophie Tuma, Sydney Bove, Ti’Lyen King, and Zac Ward.
