Queen Anne’s County Recognizes January as National Mentoring Month

1/17/2026

The County Commissioners of Queen Anne’s County have officially proclaimed January 2026 as National Mentoring Month, highlighting the positive and lasting impact mentors have on young people throughout the community.

National Mentoring Month recognizes individuals who dedicate their time and guidance to helping youth build confidence, resilience, and important life skills. County officials say mentors play a critical role in supporting young people as they navigate challenges, explore new opportunities, and work toward their full potential.

As part of the proclamation, the County Commissioners recognized the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, which provides mentoring programs, enrichment activities, and family support services to youth in Queen Anne’s County. Through long-term, consistent mentoring relationships, the organization helps young people feel supported and empowered to succeed.

The proclamation notes that mentoring strengthens families, uplifts youth, and contributes to a stronger community overall.
County leaders are encouraging educators, businesses, civic groups, and residents to observe National Mentoring Month by learning more about local mentoring opportunities and considering ways to get involved.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore has recently expanded its presence in Queen Anne’s County and is currently seeking additional volunteers.
