Queen Anne’s County Commissioners Approve Property Tax Rate Reduction

3/25/2026

Queen Anne’s County Commissioners have approved a reduction in the county’s property tax rate as part of the Fiscal Year 2027 budget process.

At their March 24 meeting, commissioners voted unanimously to lower the property tax rate from $0.83 to $0.80 per $100 of assessed value. The new rate will take effect July 1.

The decision came as County Administrator Todd Mohn and Budget Director Jeff Rank presented the proposed $234.5 million FY2027 operating budget, a 12% increase over the current fiscal year.

County leaders say the tax cut reflects the county’s strong financial position and continued focus on responsible budgeting. Queen Anne’s County maintains a Triple-A bond rating, allowing it to borrow at lower interest rates and reduce long-term costs for taxpayers.

Commissioners said the rate reduction is intended to provide some relief for residents, particularly those facing rising living expenses, while maintaining the county’s financial stability.

Because property taxes account for more than 40% of county revenue, officials say the budget will be revised to reflect the expected decrease in income.
The proposed budget includes about $91.4 million for the Board of Education, representing roughly 42% of total spending and an increase from the previous year.

Commissioners also indicated they may explore a potential reduction in the county income tax rate in future years if current financial trends continue.

Budget work sessions are scheduled to begin March 26.
