Plans Move Forward to Replace Centreville Middle School

3/10/2026

Plans to replace Centreville Middle School took a step forward after the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education approved a feasibility study recommending construction of a new school on the current campus.

The board supported a proposal that would build a new middle school alongside the existing building before demolishing portions of the current structure. School officials say the plan would allow classes to continue with minimal disruption during construction.

Superintendent Dr. Matthew Kibler said the feasibility study was developed with input from a committee that included Queen Anne’s County Public Schools staff.
The district has also received an $850,000 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to support design planning and cost analysis for a potential net-zero or energy-efficient school.

The current Centreville Middle School is about 86,000 square feet. A replacement facility would be nearly 99,000 square feet and include updated classrooms, flexible learning spaces, and room for a potential future Career and Technical Education facility.

Plans also include reconfiguring bus loops and parking areas on the campus.

Officials estimate construction could begin as early as 2028 and take about two years to complete, with an estimated cost of about $72 million.
The feasibility study will now be submitted to the state for review as the district continues seeking funding for the project.
