An early morning house fire caused damage to a home in Caroline County on Friday, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Firefighters were dispatched around 4:28 a.m. to a residence in the 27000 block of Burrsville Road in Denton. The fire was first spotted by a passerby, who called 911 and alerted the occupants.

Crews from the Denton Volunteer Fire Company responded with about 25 firefighters and brought the blaze under control in approximately 25 minutes.

Officials say the fire started on an exterior attached deck of the one-story home. Damage to the structure and its contents is estimated at around $20,000.
No injuries were reported, and the occupants were not displaced.

Investigators say the home did not have working smoke alarms at the time of the fire. Following the incident, smoke alarms were provided to the occupants.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
