Caroline County public Schools Adjust Calendar After Winter Weather Closures

3/6/2026

The Caroline County Board of Education has approved several calendar changes following multiple weather-related school closures this winter.

At its March meeting, the board voted to change April 1 from a half day to a full day for students and April 2 to a half day for students. School officials say the adjustments are intended to help make up lost instructional time while avoiding extending the school year further into June.

The district also plans to request a waiver from the Maryland State Board of Education to forgive the school closure on February 24 and waive the state’s 180-day requirement.

Schools in Caroline County were closed for seven days due to inclement weather this school year, including December 5, 2025, and January 26 through 29, as well as February 23 and 24. Three of those days were already built into the school calendar, leaving four days that needed to be made up.

Officials say the final last day of school will be approved at a future board meeting once the waiver request is reviewed by the state.
