Caroline County House Fire Causes Heavy Damage, Displaces Residents

4/23/2026

A house fire in Caroline County Tuesday evening caused significant damage and displaced the occupants, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

Firefighters were called around 4:58 p.m. to a home in the 4800 block of Birch Drive in Preston. Crews from the Preston Volunteer Fire Company responded with 39 firefighters and brought the fire under control in just over an hour.

Officials say the fire originated on the exterior of the one-story home and caused an estimated $150,000 in structural damage, along with an additional $50,000 in damage to contents.

No injuries were reported.

The home was equipped with a smoke alarm, but it was not operational at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
